Ennis enters the way back machine and ends up in Vietnam to see the tipping point for Frank Castle. I hadn't read these stories before, so this was a great way to binge on them. In their place is hyper-violent, realistic noir that pulls no punches. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Well, less so in the Vietnam story, where we learn about the voice that drove him to become the Punisher, even before an inciting action actually created him. I adored this story.

I'm starting to think Frank's stories are actually best when he's being viewed from the outside, from someone trying to understand him.

Looking at Castle is something else compared to another solider, but he gets the look of a young Castle just right, he looks older then he is but young. Frank Castle is most fully formed when we find him here, and the notion that he has to do some kind of deal with the devil to survive, felt like the least smart way to kick off a new series where the Punisher fights real bad buys rather than baddies in spandex. I always thought there was something different about The Punisher.
Ultimate badassery abounds, vengeance is wreaked swiftly and thoroughly, and they even remembered to take into account the older M60 jamming issues!: This book ennls not yet featured on Listopia. The Punisher Complete collection is a must read for any Punisher fan.

But holy fucking shit, Ennis really pulls no punches with enjis book. Feb 21, Matt Sprague rated it it was amazing Shelves: He has a skill for posture and facial expression. Unlike the concurrently running Marvel Universe-proper series [4] featuring the Punisher, the MAX imprint allows the creators the freedom to write more realistic and hard-edged stories that cannot be seen in regular mainline Marvel Universe stories. It is one of the finest "pre-origin" origin tales out there. How times have changed -- finally under Marvel's Max Comics division the character is now fully, appropriately and explicitly presented in all his crazed-but-calm vigilante-justice glory. Jan 18, Edward Goetz rated it really liked it Justoceiro Frank's origins in the horrors of Vietnam, before he became the Punisher, but mostly seen from the POV of a young idealist in ennos platoon.
One of the best Punisher tales around. It certainly works for what Ennis, this far into the series at least, seems to be aiming towards, but at the same time I am not necessarily entirely won over on that interpretation.
Punisher Max: The Complete Collection, Vol. 1 by Garth Ennis
He focuses more on the Punisher as a symbol and legend. Okay so the writings good, graphic as hell, but it's nax solid. He's sort of a catalyst, waiting on the sidelines, playing a small part in the direction of events, but much of the time the slaughter is not done by him.

If you have the stomach for the language and the violence, there are some interesting, dark stories being told here. Two stars because the first story, Born, is decent, and the second story is acceptable. I don't know, this is bad story telling, and I'm not sure why anyone juaticeiro prefer such a vomit of violence and gore, without a proper story to back it.
Yarth escapes prison and goes into his final confrontation with Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin, and his new bodyguard, Elektra. This is not a heroic Punisher, not even an anti-hero, this is a mass murderer who implacably kills people he deems corrupt. To me, it is still the most potent version of Frank Castle aka The Punisher ever devised.
Damn everyone and everything else. Paperbackpages.
